ANTIQUE
FURNITURE
Our line of antique
furniture from China is extensive. Most of the pieces were built in
the late 1700's; the newest pieces are dated circa 1875. All have been
restored in China.
Many types of wood are represented. Zhang-mu, or camphor wood, is similar
to oak with a prominent grain. Ju-mu, or southern elm, is hard and dense
with a beautiful color; it has a large grain suggesting mountains piled
upon mountains. Zi-tan, or red sandalwood, is similar to rosewood, the
hardest and heaviest of all hardwoods. Included among the other woods
(by their American names) are: bamboo, birch, cedar, cherry wood, cypress,
ebony, fir, locust, mahogany, pear, pine, and teak.
Because this furniture has been produced in a similar manner for centuries,
the supply is abundant. Since they are antiques, each is unique and
small variations in size and detail should be expected. It should also
be noted that due to differences in temperature and humidity between
China and the United States, some cracking and warpage may occur after
transit.
CHINESE
DECORATIVE ACCESSORIES
The accessories
line is comprised of items that have found in traditional Chinese homes
for centuries. Although most of the items are made from various types
of wood, some are bamboo or wicker, a few are porcelain, and include:
assorted sizes and shapes of wooden buckets and boxes, wedding baskets,
tea pots, and drum stools.
